South Portland High School Track & Field Renovation Project
Next week's public forum on the SPHS Track and Field Renovation Project marks a major milestone for a project that has been years in the making. About a year ago, South Portland voters approved a $4.6 million bond for renovations of the high school athletic complex. Next week, the community is invited to learn more about the project and the scope of the work and to provide comments on the plans.
This investment will result in a new grass field, track, lighting and permanent bathrooms. We are expecting construction to start in April or May 2027. And we're looking forward to seeing students and community members using the facility in October 2027!
The project phases are outlined below:
Late June–Mid-September 2026: Design Development
Mid-September–Late November 2026: Local Permitting
Mid-September–Early December 2026 and continuing up until construction: Maine Department Permitting
Mid-November 2026–late January 2027: Construction Documentation
February 2027: Bidding for Project
May–September 2027: Construction
