All South Portland Schools actively seek ways to recycle waste and compost food scraps. Last year alone we composted over 600,000 pounds of food waste.

We believe in the responsible disposal of e-waste, and encourage the use of digital resources whenever practical. Many of our schools are equipped with new water bottle fillers to reduce the amount of plastic bottle waste. Our recently renovated high school features many Green elements and systems to save money and lesson our impact on the environment.

The SPHS Sustainability Committee is composed of staff and students who are dedicated to bringing Sustainability focused educational opportunities and green initiatives to our schools. This year, we hosted the first annual “Sustainability Week” focusing on the themes of ocean conservation, renewable energy, food recovery, and bee awareness.
