Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
CHRC Approval (Fingerprinting) Instructions
Most jobs in Maine schools require a Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
*** During COVID our office is closed. Please call us 871-0555 as we fully assist you remotely ***
CHRC is a 2 step process:
-
Register online with IdentoGo. There is a $55 fee for this. The location of the fingerprinting is at VTEC Training – 343 Gorham Rd, South Portland. www.identogo.com - select Maine, online scheduling on the next screen, and continue through the registration process. You will need a debit/credit card for this portion.
-
Complete the application from the Department of Education for Initial Approval, which we can share if necessary. Please provide Central Office with a copy of your Identogo appointment receipt and signed and completed (including the $15 debit/credit card payment).. This is highly recommended as we will fax these materials to the DoE on your behalf – reducing wait time for employment.
If guidance is needed, please call our office so we can assist you with the processing of the DoE application.
If you have not had 5 years of continuous employment in a Maine school district or districts, the CHRC process must be started over (see above).
If you have been continuously employed the renewal fee is $15 (see step 2) – unless coach or substitute.
The MDoE does NOT send you a renewal reminder or CHRC results (fingerprint card). That said, you can access your CHRC information on the DoE website:
https://neo.maine.gov/DOE/NEO/Dashboard - Application Status
Please note, it can take up to 3 months or more to receive a renewal if your CHRC lapses.
