July 6, 2006

Present: Jake Viola, Dennis Welch, Sylvia Green, Mark Lee, Mark Reuscher, Dave Brochu, Scott Pakulski, Wendy Houlihan, Ralph Cabana, Steve Bailey, Ralph Baxter, Kathy Germani, Megan Welter, Jeanne Crocker, Margaret Esten, Molly Aldrich, Ralph Baxter Jr., and Polly Ward.

Board of Education: Bill Harris

1. Welcome -- review of agenda

  • Add 3a - Review of S.W. Cole report

    2. Approval of Minutes from June 22, 2006

  • Approved

    3. a. Report of S.W Cole on additional site investigation

  • Bedrock in the area of the tennis courts and sledding hill is much higher than in the area of the annex.

  • Good, firm area on which to build but may require considerable blasting.

  • Blasting may be a lesser evil than driving piles.

    b. Review and Consideration of revised ideas for SPHS Renovation

  • Recap of last plan from last time and possible new schemes.
    • Scheme A - classroom wings going out from a spine
    • Scheme B - keeps the old building and creates more of a circulation loop
    • Scheme C - Eliminates the old part of the building.

  • Dave asked if there are any other possible schemes
    • Interest in seeing all of the possible schemes with the pros and cons and costs in a matrix.

  • Motion to scuttle Scheme A at this point in time - 14 in favor.

  • Suggestion to remove the connection to the old gym and build a new gym on the land toward the church.

  • Agreement to consider all land on the site for possible footprint, except football field, a PE field and with the idea that we need tennis courts somewhere on the site - unanimous agreement of the Committee.

    4. Next Steps - agenda items for next meeting

  • Next meeting: July 20, 2006 6.30-8.30 p.m. SPHS Library.
