MEETING NOTES

Present: Carrie Hall-Indorf, Nancy Carroll, Dave Brochu, Dennis Welch, Wendy Houlihan, Ralph Cabana, Mary McMullin, Maxine Beecher, Steve Bailey, Nancy Burton, Jeanne Crocker, Ralph Baxter, Jr., Ruth Doughty, Megan Welter, Kathy Germani, Angela Griffiths, and Polly Ward.
1. Welcome and review of 11/10/04 minutes
• Minutes accepted as written
2. Survey Development
• Angela sent a copy of the survey that was used for the elementary schools
• It was decided to wait on this until after the Educational Planner selection
3. Selection of Educational Planner
• Polly reviewed the process for the selection of the Educational Planner
• Dave described the walk-through on December 10, 2004 to begin at 10 AM
• People who would be interested in being on the Selection Committee

4. Middle School Programming
• Brief report by Kathy Germani and Megan Welter
• The middle school model was used a lot in operation
• Need a lot of flexibility related to student needs
• Both middle schools are not conducive to large meeting spaces- they are limited with respect to the student capacity of each room
• Need to use a team approach when supporting the needs of students
• Many middle schools have a lot of student work on display and we are limited in our ability to do this
• Many middle schools ???? students by grade- we try to do this but are limited by the facility and do not have the ability to be flexible with the space
• Mahoney has 3 Special Ed self contained rooms and no time out space

• 26 regular education teachers
• 6 special education classrooms
• Size of rooms
• To be determined by Educational Planner
• 26’ by 29’ is the average size
• Might be helpful to share Middle School/High School section of the 1997 Facilities Plan
• Number of lunch periods- 3
• 6 day rotation of related arts
• Lunch is always the same by grade
• Indoor air quality has not been tested in 5-6 years, with the exception of radon testing
• There is no back up generator for use in power outage
• At times, people have reported backing into heat pipes, but no other radiator problems have been noted
• The Fire Department has some issues with the school
• No emergency lighting
• Fire drills when weather is bad
• Students do not get far enough away from the building in fire drills
• Use of power strips and occasional extension cords
• Handicapped accessibility- door knobs are not up to code
