Present: Ralph Baxter, Jr., Ralph Cabana, Dave Brochu, Carrie Hall-Indorf, Steve Bailey, Wendy Houlihan, Dennis Welch, Mark Lee, Kathy Germani, Megan Welter, Maxine Beecher, Jeanne Crocker, Ralph Baxter, Sr., Polly Ward.

1. Welcome and review of agenda

2. Minutes from September 29, 2005 meeting

  • Approved
  • 3. Review of revised documents for use with Community Forums

  • Lighten up the site plan and middle level plan so they are easier to read
  • Megan expressed concerns about the air quality language
    • May want to say a history of air quality issues and potential for future moisture infiltration

  • Focus on the building envelope issues that lead to these other problems
  • Printing

    • May want to use a softer white paper
    • Should it be flipped around if use as a folded document?

    4. Review of meetings to date: process, format, feedback

  • Meetings are very different from one another- some have a significant amount of time, others only 10-20 minutes
  • Put something on the top of the Pro's for the Middle Schools that clarifies that this list has been developed by the Committee and by the community forums "Brainstorming on the Middle Schools"
  • Wendy shared the tax rate information developed by Rob Coombs for each proposal if bonded today at a 5% interest rate
  • Dave handed out a comparison of building operating costs for the middle school proposals
  • Polly reported on the transportation to a single Middle school, which with the possible exception of the transportation of students to out of district placements, does not appear to require additional drivers or buses
  • Kevin Woodhouse has responded to questions regarding middle school athletics in one or two middle schools, Wendy will bring this information to the next meeting
  • Dennis suggested that there be a FAQ sheet to be left at various places in the City

    • May take a look at after a couple of additional meetings


    5. Dates and sign ups for upcoming community meetings

  • Asked for volunteers for the Community meetings
  • Next meeting: October 27, 2005 at 6:30 PM in the SPHS Library
